Hardscaping - 'Let's Rock!'
Putting your yard between a rock and a hard place...

We can't tell you how many times people ask, "What, exactly, is hardscaping?" Well,
OHC is here to set the record straight! We all know that landscaping is a planned arrangement of trees, shrubs, and other plants to serve a specific purpose. Hardscaping is exactly the same, only it involves arranging "hard," non-living objects such as rocks or stones. Hardscaping is more on the architectural end of things, and in essence should be considered an addition to the structure of your home, often times to accommodate your landscaping!

Here at
OHC, hardscaping means retaining walls, interlocking pavers, steps, built-in planters, pergulas, fences, and a whole lot of other accent and ornamental structures. Amid our portfolio of completed works we have installed a number of different rock walkways, accent stones, and other hardscaping elements in order to tie together the theme or design of what we were working on.

Sound expensive?

Hardscaping can be quite economical and often times a necessity to the viability of a design or problem. Retaining walls are particularly useful in keeping large amounts of dirt from washing into an existing area, and sometimes a nice flag-stone walkway creates a point of interest that might otherwise be overlooked in concrete. The question isn't really whether or not you can afford a little extra structure to your home, it's whether or not you can afford not to!
